Teacher unions got pass
Your editorial "The quest for true reform" protests too much about the political deal favoring Chicago schools and too little about the role played by powerful teachers unions, not just in Chicago but across the Northwest suburbs, in driving up property taxes and contributing to the state's pension crisis.
Just look at the increases in teacher compensation combined with generous pensions that leave some with annual pension payments equal to their salaries when they were working.
This is mismanagement too, because it's not sustainable. It's also evidence of an entitlement mentality you seem afraid to address.
