Police: Illinois semi driver was drunk in Indiana crash

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana State Police say an Illinois man had a blood-alcohol level that was more than three-times the legal limit when he crashed a semi-truck into a guard rail on Interstate 80 in northwest Indiana.

Police say the early morning crash on Friday blocked all westbound traffic near LaPorte. They say full and empty containers of alcohol were found inside the semi, which was driven by 42-year-old Dominik Bielawski-Siwiec.

The Mount Prospect man was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering others.

He was arrested at the scene and transported to the LaPorte County Jail. Police say testing done there shows the driver had a blood alcohol level of .25. The legal limit is .08.

Lawyer information for the driver was unavailable Saturday.
