Opening night at Libertyville Days festival

Families tried out new foods as they listened to the local band Sneezy entertain with a unique sound of fusion rock on the first day of Libertyville Days on Thursday.

Events featured carnivals on Church Street and Sunrise Rotary Park, Church Street Eats, the Miss Libertyville Pageant and the bands Sneezy and Hello Weekend performing on the Main Stage.

"This year we are honoring Libertyville High School. It is 100 years old this year," said Dee Cox, festival chairwoman. "We are bigger than ever with lots of rides and new food vendors this year. We have a fantastic band lineup this year."

Almost 50,000 people are expected to attend during the four-day festival, with money going to the Libertyville Civic Center Foundation and the activities that are held at the center.

Fridays events include an arts & crafts fair, a children's party, face painting and hair braiding, children's cookie bake-off, Libertyville High School Poms performance, balloon sculpting by RCJuggle and the band Deathfolk performing in Cook Park.

Entertainment on the Main Stage features Cool Rockin' Daddies performing from 2-4 p.m., Rollover with Louie Zagoras from 5-7:30 p.m. and Gooroos from 8:30-11 p.m.
