Aldi employees pack emergency relief boxes

Nearly 500 Aldi employees fought through the sweltering heat Tuesday as they packed up about 2,000 boxes for the needy at their corporate headquarters in Batavia.

Working in a parking lot, the volunteers packed the food to the beat of an on-site DJ.

The grocery chain worked in partnership with Feeding America and the Northern Illinois Food Bank on the project. The boxes, packed with items such as canned fruits, vegetables and soup, granola bars, peanut butter and utensils, will be shipped to Feeding America warehouses to be distributed in times of need. Aldi will also donate $100,000 to Feeding America.
