Sunday School and the Hidden Treasure

The second and third grade students in Joy Cooper's Sunday School class at First Congregational UCC of Des Plaines took their curriculum to heart last spring. They learned while studying the Book of Matthew that God's kingdom is like a hidden treasure. "God's kingdom is abundant, and anyone can live in it if they try," said student Lawson Wetendorf.

The class discussion led to the idea of putting together a time capsule and burying it within the church for future congregants to discover. "There is valuable stuff inside that you can't believe, just like in God's kingdom," said student Tommy Almerigi.

"Putting into practice what we studied has been a real gift," added Mrs. Cooper. The Sunday School year concluded with a Children's Day celebration in May, with classes scheduled to resume in September. For further information, call (847) 299-5561.
