Evansville plans study to create downtown parking plan

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The city of Evansville plans a $35,000 study to find out how many cars can be parked downtown.

The Evansville Courier and Press reports (http://bit.ly/2rVNkjs ) parking was one of the top responses to a downtown survey that asked about what needed to be improved. The study aims to create a downtown parking management plan.

It will be done by Denver-based PUMA, which also oversaw the city's downtown master plan released last year. The Evansville Redevelopment Commission approved the parking plan this past week.

Estimates from 2011 are that downtown Evansville has about 3,300 parking spots.

The city changed some downtown parking options earlier this year. It installed automated tellers at three city parking garages. A new system also charges users 24-hours-a-day instead of only during certain times.
