Basement fire also damages neighboring home in Elgin
A basement fire in an Elgin house damaged a neighboring home and displaced two families Friday, officials said.
A resident called the Elgin Fire Department 3:58 p.m. to report a basement fire at a single-family home on the 400 block of Princeton Court, according to a news release.
The fire, which eventually reached the first floor of the house, was under control within 15 minutes and none were injured.
Fire officials said the blaze caused about $50,000 in damage, including smoke damage to a connected duplex, where a neighboring family lived, according to the news release.
Both families were displaced and have since made living arrangements, The total number of people displaced was not immediately available.
The fire is under investigation.
