South Elgin tops Carmel Catholic for Lacrosse Cup
South Elgin's boys lacrosse team wrapped up a Lacrosse Cup state championship effort in the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association by topping Carmel Catholic 9-6 on Saturday morning at Stevenson High School.
In the top division of the IHSLA, New Trier defeated Loyola 9-6 on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson.
South Elgin, which had been No. 2 in the Lacrosse Cup seedings, wrapped up its second season of varsity participation in the IHSLA with a record of 22-1. The Storm's only loss came against Mt. Carmel on April 29.
South Elgin is coached by Kyle Pepich and had nine players earn all-conference honors in the Upstate Eight.
First-teamers were sophomore attacker Cade Newton, junior faceoff Joey Cipriani, junior goalie Ryan Gartner and junior midfield Jaron Wells.
Second-teamers were senior attacker Chris Wills, junior defensive midfielder Kyle Pollert and senior defender Alec Witte.
Honorable mention choices were senior attacker Chris Smith and sophomore LS midfielder Travis Tranchitella.
Carmel Catholic was the top seed for the Lacrosse Cup.
Coached by Tony Orsini, the Corsairs finished with a record of 20-5 and had five players earn all-East Suburban Catholic Conference honors: Senior attacker Rondel Jamison, senior attacker Jake Shenderovsky, junior defender Riley Hickey, junior goalie John Moran and junior LS midfielder Brandon Espinosa.
