Probation for woman in Elgin home invasion
An Elgin woman will spend four years on probation for attempted home invasion.
Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler Thursday accepted the sentence, agreed on by the prosecutor and Laura L. Montigo, 31, who pleaded guilty May 12.
She had been charged with attempted home invasion and aggravated battery Dec. 1, 2016. The aggravated battery charge was dropped as part of her plea.
She beat a man with a blunt object in his home in the 200 block of Illinois Court. She was an acquaintance.
Montigo could have been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
She will have to pay $1,000 restitution to the victim, and avoid contact with him.
Montigo had been free on a recognizance bond since May 12, after spending more than five months in Kane County jail.
