Exhibit shows Aurorans in WWI

The experiences of Aurorans who went off to fight in the First World War, as well as what life was like for those who stayed at home, are on exhibit the Pierce Art and History Center in Aurora.

Co-created by the Aurora Historical Society and the GAR Memorial Hall and Museum, the exhibit features artifacts from both collections as well as a full-scale replica of a trench that visitors can enter for a sense of the hardships the soldiers encountered from enemy fire, disease and attrition.

The exhibit, which opened Memorial Day, will remain up through Jan. 6 at the center, 20 E. Downer Place. Regular hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. The exhibit is free. For information, visit aurorahistory.net.
