New officers elected for Batavia American Legion Post 504

The Batavia American Legion Post 504 has elected its new officers for 2017-18 at the May 16 meeting. They are: Rick Kirk, Commander; Robert Zeman, Senior Vice Commander; John Barrett, Adjutant; David Jordan, Finance Officer; Don Nallenweg, Chaplain; and Nathan Gustafson, Sergeant-at-Arms.

The post also announced that it is sending three boys and two girls to the 82nd session of the American Legion Boys State and Girls State, a citizenship training program offering government instruction for U.S. high school students on June 10-16 at Eastern Illinois University. It is a participatory program where students learn about the operation of local, county and state government.

The post also has awarded Stanley Johnson Scholarships to three Batavia High students.

The Batavia American Legion Post will have its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the Batavia VFW, 645 S. River St. in Batavia. All veterans are invited to attend and join.
