Landscape artist Robert Pennington's work on display at Holmstad gallery
Local landscape artist Robert Pennington's oil and watercolor paintings are on display at The Holmstad Town Center Gallery now through July 7. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, and weekend by appointment. The Holmstad, a faith-based, nonprofit, continuing care retirement community is located at 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia.
Stationed in Italy in the U.S. Army during World War II at the age of 18, Pennington was influenced by the country's beautiful landscape and rich architecture. After the war, he attended Knox College where he earned his bachelor of fine arts degree and then worked in the advertising and printing industries.
Upon retiring, Pennington devoted his time to honing his craft, focusing on oil and watercolor painting. He has achieved numerous awards over the years for his work, including Best in Show and People's Choice awards, and shares his gift by teaching oil painting at LivingWell Cancer Resource Center in Geneva. Pennington believes, "Art is not only creating something beautiful, it is also a wonderful form of therapy and it's good for the soul."
Throughout the year, the Town Center Gallery features the work of local and resident artists. For more information, visit www.theholmstad.org/events or call (877) 226-7310.
