Baseball: Lavrisa, Jacobs stymie Dundee-Crown

Bryce Vincent's 2-run triple in the second inning scored Cory Dennison, who doubled, and Ian Oreskovich and Justin Lavrisa made the runs stand up with a stellar pitching performance as Jacobs defeated Dundee-Crown 2-1 Thursday in Fox Valley Conference baseball action.

Lavrisa scattered 7 hits while striking out 10 and issuing no walks for the Golden Eagles (17-17, 8-15).

D-C scored in the fifth when Sean Jay and Joey Marczyk hit back-to-back doubles. Jonathan Mays added 2 hits for the Chargers (14-16, 7-15).

Erik Hedmark was the tough-luck loser for D-C despite allowing just 3 hits. He struck out 8 and walked 1.

McHenry sweeps Hampshire: At the Strike Out Cancer event at Peterson Park in McHenry, McHenry defeated Hampshire 7-6 and 3-1 in a Fox Valley Conference doubleheader. In Game 1 Kyle Homa had 2 hits including a grand slam home run for the Whip-Purs while Trevor Laffin added 3 hits and Matthew Wians had 2 hits and an RBI. In the second game Noah Schrader led Hampshire (8-25-1, 3-20) with 3 hits while Kevin Michaelsen added 2 hits and an RBI.

South Elgin 5, West Chicago 4: John Lamont singled and later scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh inning as South Elgin (20-4, 18-2) won this Upstate Eight Valley game. Bryant Diel and Patrick Keaty (3B, 2 RBI) had 2 hits each for the Storm and Cameron Kovanda added a double. Patrick Herion was the winning pitcher in relief.

Geneva 16, Larkin 2: Noah Davison homered while Ian Hanson (2B, 3B, 5 RBI) had 3 hits to lead Geneva (19-10, 16-7) to a UEC River win. Dominic Guido (3B, 4 RBI), Tyler Venditti and Graham Owen had 2 hits each for the Vikings. Larkin slipped to 12-17, 8-15 with the loss.

Burlington Central 11, Harvard 2: Clay Milas had 3 hits with a double and an RBI while Colin Anderson (2B, RBI) and Matt Termini (2B, RBI) added 2 hits each for the Rockets (25-9, 14-4) in their Kishwaukee River win. David Lauber, Josh Noeska and Josh Rodriguez each drove in 2 runs for BC. Brandon Van Buren was the winning pitcher going 5⅓ innings and allowing 5 hits with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Marmion 6, Plano 1: Winning pitcher Brandon McPherson, who struck out 7 in 3 innings, had 2 hits and an RBI to lead Marmion (16-16) to a nonconference win. Bryce Burton (2 RBI) and Sam Ochoa (2 RBI) added 2 hits each for the Cadets.

Ridgewood 10, ACC 6: In a Metro Suburban crossover game, Johnny Belskis had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Michael Bieterman added 2 hits with a double for Aurora Central (22-9-1).
