Baseball: Buffalo Grove powers up at Glenbrook North

Buffalo Grove's baseball team certainly played like a No. 1 seed on Tuesday.

The visiting Bison, who earned the top ranking for next week's Mundelein sectional, got home runs from Mac Camardo, John Carpinelli and Riley Rundquist in earning a 15-6 victory over Glenbrook North in nonconference play.

Rundquist also doubled to finish 2-for-2 with a walk, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Leo Rule went 3-for-5 with a double, Camardo hit a 3-run homer in the fifth inning and Mike Gran and winning pitcher Rio Komatani had 2 hits apiece

Rule also stole 3 bases and Zach Fricke stole 2 as Buffalo Grove improved to 25-4-1.

Carmel 17, St. Viator 5 (5 inn.): The Lions dropped a second straight to the host Corsairs in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

Joel Basara, Drew Wiegman and Eddie Pietschmann homered as Carmel (18-7) came up with 13 hits. Casey Kmet and Joe Sarnello had doubles for the Lions (17-15).

Leyden 15, Proviso East 4 (5 inn.): The visiting Eagles continued their winning ways with a 13-hit attack that included five doubles.

Josh Cubon, Nick Herrera, Corey Lavallais and Sebastian Rosario had 2 hits apiece for Leyden (19-5-1), and Kevin Nevarez earned the victory.

Rolling Meadows 12, Maine South 9: The host Mustangs came up with 7 runs in the second inning but still had to win by coming from behind in the nonconference matchup.

The Hawks led 9-8 after the third inning before Rolling Meadows (5-22) scored 3 in in the fifth and once in the sixth.

Matt Lothery and Nate Pardini had doubles for the Mustangs, and Justin Thompson, Marco Perez, Zach Marcopulos and Lothery had 2 hits each. Lothery drove in 3 runs and Frank Storniolo had 2 RBI.

Jack Kane pitched 3⅓ scoreless relief innings to earn a victory.
