Softball: Pollman, South Elgin silence Streamwood

Geneva Pollman pitched a gem for the South Elgin softball team Monday, allowing 5 hits and no earned runs in a 5-1 victory over Streamwood. She struck out five and walked two.

Alissa Hargett was the hitting star for South Elgin (14-12, 8-5 in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley), going 3-for-4 with an RBI. McKayla Timmons hit a solo home run, and Brynn Warrick went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.

St. Charles North 16, Larkin 0: Maddie Webb tossed a 3-hit shutout for the North Stars (15-8, 9-5), striking out five and walking one. She also was 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run and 4 RBI. Ali Moberg went 4-for-4 with 6 RBI, Ashlyn Jozefowicz had 3 hits, and Jordyn Wolfe, Aislen Kelly, Samantha Vaca and Grace Sobeski all had 2 hits.

Kaneland 10, Rock Falls 0: The Knights (20-12-2) won behind Emilee Erickson's 4-hit shutout in 5 innings. The freshman didn't walk a batter, allowed 4 hits and had 5 strikeouts. Hannah Theobald went 3-for-3 with 5 RBI, and Morgan Weber, Donatela Sommesi and Aly Jesionowski all had 2 hits.

Huntley 11, McHenry 5: The Red Raiders (25-6, 14-2) scored 7 times in the third inning to erase a 3-0 deficit and pick up another Fox Valley Conference victory. Tiffany Giese won her 23rd game, striking out six and scattering 12 hits. Sophia Tenuta homered and drove in 3 runs, and Kendra Mitchell was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a stolen base.

IC Catholic Prep 5, Aurora Central Catholic 1: Alheia Valazquez went 2-for-4 and Izzy Hernandez was 2-for-3 for the Chargers (11-13).

Dundee-Crown 5, Grayslake Central 0: Sydney Ruggles dominated, striking out 14 while giving up 5 hits and 3 walks. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate, Hannah Gestrich was 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI, Claire Weeks went 2-for-4 with a home and 3 RBI, and Kayla Showdeen also had 2 hits. Dundee-Crown improved to 17-12.

Cary-Grove 6, Woodstock North 1: The Chargers (9-17) improved to 5-2 in their last 7 games behind a 2-hit, 2-RBI game from Kelly Johnson, 3 RBI by Victoria Beatty, and pitchers Rachel Stanley and Taylor Langguth each striking out four and walking none in splitting the 7 innings in the circle.

Grant 7, Crystal Lake South 4: Maddie Bush went 2-for-3 and Skylar Olsen drove in 2 runs in a losing effort for the Gators (14-13).

DeKalb 14, Burlington Central 11: The Rockets (15-8) were done in by an 8-run fourth inning. Julia Barnes went 4-for-5 with a double, and Lindsay Jamrozek, Gretchen Schrubbe and Sarah Schmitt all went 2-for-4.
