Holy Cross College aims to fix finances with Notre Dame deal

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Northern Indiana's Holy Cross College is selling 75 acres of land to the University of Notre Dame in a move aimed at helping stabilize the school's finances.

The college in South Bend has been ordered by the Higher Learning Commission accrediting agency to stem borrowing and balance its budget. A former top administrator earlier this month mistakenly sent an email to students saying he feared "closing down the college" this coming school year because of financial troubles.

But Holy Cross trustees Chairman Dave Bender tells the South Bend Tribune (http://bit.ly/2qk4sy8 ) that the school has also been talking with Notre Dame about collaborating on academic programs. He declined to release details of the property deal, under which the 500-student Roman Catholic liberal arts college will lease the land.
