Central IN man charged with neglecting mother after she fell

LIZTON, Ind. (AP) - A central Indiana man has been arrested after medics found his 80-year-old mother stuck to a mattress and covered with feces and urine.

The 54-year-old Lizton man appeared in Hendricks Superior Court on Friday to face a charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious injury. He's being held on bond.

His mother was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Doctors found the woman dehydrated and covered in "large areas of red, seeping sores."

Court documents say the man summoned medics on Monday after his mother became unresponsive. He said his mother had fallen approximately six weeks earlier ago but he could not pick her up. When asked why he didn't call for help earlier, documents say he told the medics they were "too expensive."
