Girls track: Marasco, Schaumburg excel at Bartlett sectional
Class 3A Bartlett sectional: On Thursday at Millennium Field in Streamwood, both Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates made strong showings.
The Hoffman Estates 1,600-meter relay of Katie Bonney, Jada Byndom, Anna Miller and Mikkaela Palmer won in 3:58.38. Schaumburg's group of Maggy Centeno, Madison Marasco, Rachael Vaccaro and Valarie Shackleton placed second in 4:03.53 and also advanced.
In the 3,200 relay, Schaumburg excelled as Lauren Kubinski, Vaccaro, Schackleton and Marasco won in 9:22.79. Hoffman Estates' Misbah Baig, Bonney, Byndom and Michelle Diaz finished second in 9:29.41; both relays advanced to state.
Marasco, a junior, won the 800 run in 2:13.85. Schaumburg also had individual state qualifiers in pole vault (Megan Gale, third, 10-3) and shot put (Maya Bowens, fourth, 38-10).
Hoffman Estates has an individual qualifier in sophomore Makiyah Blackwell, who finished fifth in shot put with a throw of 38-4.5.
Class 2A at Richmond-Burton: St. Viator senior Elizabeth Drab was in full force in claiming three individual victories Thursday evening.
Drab, the defending Class 2A state champ in the 400 meters, won the 100 dash in 12.35, the 400 in 56.54 and the 200 in 25.42. She medaled in all three of those races at last year's state meet.
