Jam phones to stop texting crashes

And so it has happened again, another tragic death caused by distracted driving when a teenage driver crossed the line and hit a Ford SUV head on. All of us see it every day. Someone on the phone or texting while driving. No amount of laws seem to be able to stop this terrible mistake.

I believe there is only one way to protect people from doing the wrong thing. Just as the NHTSA demanded seat belts be installed in every automobile for our own safety, I think they should demand that a phone jamming device be installed in every vehicle.

When the ignition is turned on and the car is put in gear, the jammer prohibits all incoming and outgoing phone calls and texts. If you must make a call or check text messages, then you must get off the highway and put the car in park.

Nothing is so important that we must answer everything immediately. How did we ever survive before the day of the cell phone? My deepest condolences to the friends and family of this teenager. May her soul rest in peace.
