Strong winds cause damage in Indiana; flooding persists

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Strong winds knocked over trees in western Indiana, damaging homes and vehicles, as flooding persists in parts of the state.

The damaging weather in Terre Haute came Wednesday night as severe thunderstorms moved across Indiana. No injuries were reported. The Tribune Star says several thousand customers were without power in the Terre Haute area on Thursday following the storms.

Heavy rains on Wednesday prompted the National Weather Service to continue flood warnings for a number of rivers in western, central and southern Indiana.

The weather service says the Wabash, White and other rivers will remain near flood crests for the next few days and other flooding could continue into next week. Flooding is affecting roads, farm fields, parks, campgrounds and some residential areas.
