Boys water polo

Stevenson's top-seeded boys water polo team had no trouble taking its first postseason step in earning a 20-2 victory against Highland Park in Deerfield sectional quarterfinal play Thursday.

The opponent for the 31-0 Patriots in a 7 p.m. Friday semifinal will be fifth-seeded McHenry, which ousted No. 4 seed Lake Forest 12-11.

Libertyville 9, Buffalo Grove 7: The Mid-Suburban East champs bowed out but made advancement difficult for a higher-seeded opponent in the Deerfield sectional.

The sixth-seeded Bison wrap up their season with a record of 22-10, while No. 3 seed Libertyville (17-11) earned an 8 p.m. semifinal against No. 2 seed Mundelein.

Leading the way for Libertyville were Scott Villiard and Eric Turner (3 goals each).

Mundelein 17, Deerfield 5: The Mustangs improved to 16-13, getting 5 goals from Nick Oleinik and 4 from Ryan Zentz and rolling into a Friday semifinal matchup against North Suburban Conference foe Libertyville.
