The Kiwanis Club of Elgin hosts weekly meetings featuring a variety of topics.
On May 16, Liz Marston, director of the Elgin History Museum, will present a program on their exhibit "Dairies to Prairies," telling the story of Elgin's dairy heritage.
On May 23, Melissa Owens, newly elected member of the board of Elgin Area School District U-46, will articulate her vision for the district and its students.
On May 30, librarian Melissa Lane of the Gail Borden Public Library will present an introduction to genealogy research. Getting started in genealogy is a breeze with the library's extensive collection of genealogy resources and expert assistance.
The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 97th year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission, to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time.
In that time, the Elgin noon club donated more than $1 million to organizations in Elgin and South Elgin.
Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend a weekly lunch meeting at noon Tuesdays at the Grumpy Goat Tavern, 875 Sports Way, Elgin, at the Highlands golf course. For more information, contact Karen Maki at (847) 695-7589.
