We're on thoughtless path to destruction

It seems my fellow Americans have elected a president who, with staff and advisers, doesn't have a clue about our world, nor do they care. Ignorance that has now taken us to the brink of nuclear war.

Amazingly, so few members of the Republican Party, especially those in Congress, will challenge him or his decisions. Their desire to win the White House and control of Congress has compelled them to sell their souls, even those humiliated by Trump during the campaign. Even if they win every piece of legislation, it won't matter if our country is destroyed in war.

Around 50 years ago, I read an article that compared America to the Roman Empire. The downfall of that empire occurred when their society became immoral, corrupt, greedy, cruel and selfish - attributes beginning to take hold in America. Trump and his supporters have caused so much divisiveness and hatred in our country and the world, we might never recover from it. We need to return to the values that made America great, beginning with respect - for ourselves, one another, our country and the people of all the world.

I've lived through the time of World War II, Korean War, Cuban missile crisis (when fear permeated the world), Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, now Syria.

When does the madness stop? Waiting for a nuclear bomb explosion or radioactive cloud to float over is not what I call living!

My fervent hope and prayer is that the president and all these big, tough-talking world leaders stop talking about nuclear weapons and war. Nuclear was has no winners. Leaders, stop thinking about yourselves, and give our children and grandchildren a world of peace. Hug your children and loved ones every chance you get.

God bless America!
