Girls soccer: Warren wraps up NSC crown

Warren's girls soccer team secured the first North Suburban Conference title in program history with a 9-0 victory over Zion-Benton on Thursday.

The Blue Devils, who move to 16-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the NSC, scored all nine of their goals in the first half.

"Winning the North Suburban Conference is never easy," Warren coach Ryan McCabe said. "There are several teams each year that have a chance. I am so proud of this group of girls. This group of seniors has been outstanding to work with and I'm so happy that they get to be our first conference champions."

Warren got 4 goals from Alliyah Parker and 2 goals from Ellen Szostake. Lindsey Hardiman chipped in with 2 assists.

Goalies Skylar Reilly and Lydia Sundberg combined for the shutout.

Libertyville 3, Lake Zurich 1: With the win, Libertyville took Lake Zurich out of contention for the North Suburban Conference title, which was clinched by Warren, a winner over Zion-Benton.

Emma Holinger scored a goal and assisted on another for Libertyville while Mary Kate Mizzllio assisted on 2 goals.

Goalie Kendall Edwards had 3 saves for the Wildcats.

Kristin Brousseau scored for Lake Zurich, which drops to 14-4 and 4-2 in the NSC.

Stevenson 7, Waukegan 0: Hannah Lapeire scored 2 goals and assisted on three others to help Stevenson get a decisive shutout win.

Brianna VanZanten also scored a goal and assisted on a goal for the Patriots.

Stevenson goalies Arushi Nair and Zoey Friedman got credit for the shutout. Each played a half.

Stevenson is now 3-7-2 on the season and 2-4 in the North Suburban Conference.

Antioch 11, North Chicago 0: Antioch was up 8-0 at halftime.

Rachel Moore and Mikayla Holway each had 3 goals for Antioch.

Goalie Monica Wilhelm got her 11th shutout of the season and the 30th of her career.

Antioch is now 13-4-2 on the season, 4-2 in the Northern Lake County Conference.

Vernon Hills 2, Deerfield 0: Vernon Hills got its seventh shutout of the season.

The Cougars finished 4-1 in the Central Suburban League in their first year in the conference.

"I thought we played a very strong game tonight," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "Our backs were excellent once again and have been the catalyst to our team this year. When we keep the ball and play simple soccer out of the back we do some really nice things collectively as a team. I am so proud of how our girls battled each and every game in this difficult conference."

Abby Brown and Alex Ludolph each scored for Vernon Hills while goalie Alex Napierkowski had 4 saves.

Vernon Hills is now 8-4-3 on the season.

Wauconda 4, Grant 0: Wauconda was up 3-0 by halftime.

Kayla Wisniewski had 2 goals to lead Wauconda. She now has 21 goals on the season.

"The Grant goalkeeper really played well today," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "She stopped so many good shots that probably go in against lesser keepers. We really had to earn our four goals today, which were highlight-worthy."

Wauconda is now 14-0-1 on the season.

Lakes 5, Round Lake 0: Lakes broke up a scoreless game at halftime with 5 second-half goals.

Hannah Dexheimer and Bella Pighini each had a goal and an assist to lead Lakes.

Lakes is now 8-8-1 on the season and 3-3 in the Northern Lake County Conference.
