Baseball: Burlington Central, Hampshire slate fundraiser events

The baseball teams from Burlington Central, Hampshire, Marengo and McHenry will hold fundraiser events at games this month.

First up will be Burlington Central's game at Marengo on Saturday at 11 a.m., which will be The Game to End Alzheimer's, at which there will be several opportunities for fans to donate to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Chicago.

Both teams will wear white and purple to honor those who have been affected by the disease, as well as their caretakers. The uniforms will be sold for $20 each after the game with the proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Chicago.

There will also be a raffle that will include drawings for gift cards, Rocket and Indian gear and tickets for White Sox, Schaumburg Boomers and Kane County Cougars games. There will also be a silent auction for two Cubs tickets, an Alzheimer's Awareness wreath, Rocket and Indian wreaths, and a wood bat to be signed by the team of the winner's choice.

Anyone who would like to donate, help on game day or would like the name of a loved one who has been affected by this disease to be included in the program can contact kyle.nelson@central301.net or maas@riley18.org.

Strike Out Cancer Game: The baseball programs from Hampshire and McHenry have joined forces with Colorado Rockies reliever Jason Motte in an effort to raise money for people affected by cancer. The Strike Out Cancer Game between the Whip-Purs and Warriors will be held at Trout Park in Elgin on May 19 at 6 p.m. Several activities will take place to raise money for those affected by cancer, including the teams wearing a Strike Out Cancer T-shirt promoting the 60 Feet 6 Foundation of White Sox pitcher Derek Holland. K Cancer T-shirts will be on sale with $10 of each sale going to the selected player's charity and $2 to the Jason Motte Foundation. The players in the game will also be using wood bats provided by the Hoosier Bat Company. The bats will feature the 20 colors of cancer awareness and the public will be able to participate in a silent auction to acquire any of the bats.
