Baseball: Buffalo Grove trio shuts out St. Viator

Buffalo Grove pitchers Zach Fricke, T.J. Constertina and Jack Vaselaney combined to throw a 2-hit shutout as visiting Buffalo Grove improved to 18-1-1 with a 6-0 victory over St. Viator in a nonconference baseball matchup Tuesday.

Fricke started and allowed 1 hit over 4 innings with 6 strikeouts. Constertina tossed 2 innings and also allowed 1 hit, and Vaselaney was perfect in his 1 inning.

Senior Tyler Rundquist finished 3-for-3 with a double and drove in 3 runs for Buffalo Grove. John Carpinelli was 2-for-4 and drove in 2 runs, and Mac Camardo came up with a double.

Vaselaney also stole 3 bases as the Bison finished with a total of 9 steals.

Hunter Johnson and Jack Mahoney had the hits for St. Viator (12-10).

Elk Grove 14, Hersey 2 (5 inn.): Joe Lopez homered as part of a 2-for-4, 4-RBI performance at the plate to help visiting Elk Grove power past Hersey in MSL East action.

A.J. Navarro also had a big role in the Grens' 13-hit effort, as he finished 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI.

Justin Post (3 RBI) doubled twice and also drew a walk for Elk Grove (10-11, 5-5).

All that offense was plenty in support of Xander Rojahn, who pitched 5 innings, struck out eight and allowed 2 hits and 3 walks.

Tyler Haffey had both of the hits for Hersey (6-14-1, 2-8), one of which was a home run.
