Jakupovic saves Hull a point vs Saints to Sunderland's cost

SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) - Eldin Jakupovic saved a late penalty kick to boost Hull's Premier League survival fight but also condemn a team not playing in the match - Sunderland - to relegation.

Hull drew with midtable Southampton 0-0 Saturday, with Jakupovic saving Dusan Tadic's late spot kick as the visitors held out.

Hull's point, along with Sunderland's 1-0 home loss to Bournemouth, ensured Marco Silva's men edged closer to top-flight safety - and put the Black Cats down.

Just as a poor match at St Mary's appeared to be heading for a dull finish, Alfred N'Diaye hauled down Maya Yoshida in the box.

Tadic lined up the penalty, only for Jakupovic to guess right and palm away the ball to safety.

Portuguese boss Silva has now guided Hull to 21 points from his 15 league games at the helm.

Hull is one place and three points above the relegation zone. It hosts Sunderland next weekend.
