Baseball: South Elgin's Kating wins 200th

South Elgin baseball coach Jim Kating earned his 200th career win Tuesday when his Storm defeated West Aurora 13-9 in an Upstate Eight Valley game in Aurora.

Kating, in his 10th season at South Elgin, is now 200-137-1. His 2014 team finished third in Class 4A.

In Tuesday's win, Nate Gomez (2B, 2 RBI), Kevin Barry (2 hits, 4 RBI) and Bryant Diel (2 hits, 3 RBI) each hit home runs for the Storm (10-2, 5-0). Also contributing to the offense were Patrick Keaty (2B), Adam Walker (3 hits, RBI) and Cameron Kovanda (2 hits, 2B, RBI).

Jack Stancl went 5 innings allowing 7 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk to earn the win.

Cam Zimmerman (2 RBI), Aric Johnson (3 RBI), Dustin Tomas (2B, RBI), Connor Palmby (RBI), Josh Adam (RBI) and Jacob Pavey each had 2 hits for West Aurora (4-13, 3-4). Alberto Martinez and JJ Rivera added doubles.

St. Charles East 6, Larkin 0: Keegan Kochis allowed 2 hits over 6 innings with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Saints (14-4, 9-1) won in the UEC River. John Carroll had 2 RBI for SCE while Jack Jordan and Steve Abruzzo each knocked in a run.

Streamwood 7, Elgin 3: Jose Aguilar had 4 RBI while Adam Sojda added a double and 2 RBI and Jesse Rico had a triple to lead Streamwood (8-9, 4-7) to this UEC River win. Colin Caminitti went 5 ⅔ innings for the win, allowing 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks. Payton Reynolds and Kyle Coates each had doubles for Elgin (3-13, 2-7).

Glenbard East 2, Bartlett 1: Scott Ruedel (2 hits, RBI), Ryan Temesvary and Alex Rodriguez each had doubles for Bartlett (8-8, 3-3) in its UEC Valley loss.

CL South 2, Jacobs 0: Andrew Engelking allowed 5 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks as the Gators (18-1, 9-1) won this Fox Valley Conference game. Brian Fuentes had a double and an RBI for Crystal Lake South while Nick Wolski drove in a run and Kory Olsen added 2 hits. Jacobs slipped to 13-6, 5-5 with the loss.

Prairie Ridge 6, Dundee-Crown 4: Scott Wojcik had 3 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI for Dundee-Crown (7-10, 4-9) in the FVC. Jonathan Mays added 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the Chargers and Matt Marczyk had 2 hits.

Batavia 4, Marmion 3: Tyler Munoz hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Batavia to this nonconference win. Quinn O'Brien added a triple for the Bulldogs (6-9) and Jake Robinson picked up the win in relief. Jack Molenhouse had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Marmion (12-7).

ACC 12, Illiana Christian 6: Jimmy Laurenti (2 RBI) and Michael Bieterman (2 hits, 3 RBI) each hit home runs for the Chargers (13-5-1, 4-2) in their Metro Suburban win. Winning pitcher Austin Berens added 2 doubles and 2 RBI for Aurora Central while Johnny Belskis had a double.

Kaneland 2, Sycamore 1: Luke Calabrese's sacrifice fly scored Luke Gomes with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for Kaneland (11-8, 5-2) in the Northern Illinois Big XII East. Clark Hendricks allowed 6 hits in earning the win for the Knights.

Westminster Christian 8, Harvest Christian 7: Matt Schulenburg (2 hits), winning pitcher Nathen Martinez (2B, 2 RBI), JT Stoll (2 hits, 2 RBI), Theron Dorsey (2B) and Luis Aguinaga (2B) led the offense for Westminster (7-4, 5-2) in this Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Dayne Frederick had a home run for Harvest (15-4, 6-1) while Zach Pawelek added 2 doubles and Joey Pepper had a double.

Hampshire 11, Crossroads Christian 1: In a nonconference game, Kyle Homa had 2 hits with a double and Carter Lawler added a double for the Whip-Purs (7-12-1). Pawel Barnas was the winning pitcher.

Elgin Academy 8, Northridge Prep 7: Elgin Academy scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to come away with this Independent School League win on the road. Andrew Wilson had a home run and 2 RBI for the Hilltoppers (12-3, 8-0) while Ian Wilson added 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Henry Stone had a double and 2 RBI.

Aurora Christian 23, IMSA 4: The Eagles (10-6, 7-1) pounded out 29 hits in this NAC win. Alec Baumgartner led the way with 5 hits and 4 RBI while Zach Zavasnik added 4 hits including a double and 4 RBI. Eric Hernandez (2B, 3B, 2 RBI), Hunter Thompson, Trey Madsen (RBI), Jacob Brothers (2 RBI), Erik Abrell, winning pitcher Jake Kuntzendorf (RBI) and Evan Stoneberg (2 RBI) had 2 hits each.

Elmwood Park 8, St. Edward 1: Nolan Theriault had a double for St. Edward (4-15, 3-9) in the Metro Suburban.
