Lake County sheriff's office recognizes 911 telecommunicators

The Lake County sheriff's office afternoon roll call was held recently at the 911 Communications Center to recognize the 911 workers' dedication to duty and service. The recognition was held during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 9-15.

The 27 dedicated professionals at the Lake County sheriff's 911 Communications Center receive more than 200,000 calls per year. In addition to answering emergency and nonemergency calls, sheriff's telecommunicators are responsible for providing dispatch service to the Lake County sheriff's office, Lake County Forest Preserve District, Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, Lake County Major Crime Task Force, Lake County Emergency Management Agency, Lake County Department of Transportation and the Lake County Animal Control Department.

"I couldn't be prouder of our team of telecommunicators who handle their responsibilities with the utmost professionalism, and I'm thankful for the service they provide to Lake County residents," Sheriff Mark Curran said. "They are the first response to a 911 call and the direct link between the public and first responders."

"Lake County sheriff's telecommunicators are the hub of sheriff's operations," Undersheriff Ray Rose said. "Public safety telecommunicators have a stressful job, from obtaining crucial details from a frantic 911 caller, to coordinating resources and running checks for deputies working the street. Our team of dedicated telecommunicators play a vital role in keeping Lake County residents and law enforcement safe."

All sheriff's telecommunicators undergo intensive ongoing training in the numerous facets of dispatching, including the use state-of-the-art computer aided dispatch and mapping and communications technologies.
