Softball: Shutout victories for Barrington, Palatine
Barrington's softball team kept its record perfect in the Mid-Suburban West on Thursday with a 17-0, five-inning victory at Schaumburg.
Sophomore Kendall Peterson led the Fillies' offense by going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Other multiple hitters for Barrington (14-1, 6-0) were Carly Kordich (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Rachel Krzysko (2-for-3, triple, 2 RBI), Abbey Jacobsen (2-for-4), Jenna Patino (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Haley Luczak (2-for-3, 2 RBI).
Winning pitcher Catherine MacMahon (10-1) went the first three innings, striking out four and allowing 2 hits. Tori Meyer, who belted a home run and had 3 RBI, threw 1 inning and struck out the side. Caroline Hoppe went the final inning and struck out two.
Natalie Napier and Micaela Encarnacion had hits for Schaumburg (4-8, 3-3).
Palatine 7, Hoffman Estates 0: Palatine improved to 11-2 and 4-1 in the MSL West Rhiann Dick (4-1) struck out eight against the visiting Hawks (2-9, 1-5).
Grace Huff (4-for-4, 3 runs), Amanda Stanczuk ( 2-for-4, double, 3 RBI), Maddie Craver (3-for-4) and Anna Selleck (home run, 4 RBI) led the Pirates offense.
Selleck took the first pitch she saw over the center field fence for a grand slam, giving the Pirates the 7-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Maine West 12, Maine East 1: Freshman Jessica Steingard (4-4) threw a 5-hitter with 7 strikeouts to pick up the CSL North win in Park Ridge as the Warriors improved to 5-7 and 3-1.
Grace Feldkamp (3-for-5, home run, double 2 RBI), Gabriella Demma (3-for-5, 3 RBI, triple), Amanda Bryne (3-for-4, double) and Katelyn Aragon 2-for-4, double) led the offense for West which also received doubles from Megan Swanson and Alison Tworek.
