Baseball: Carmel sweeps Marist
Carmel sweeps: Carmel got two East Suburban Catholic Conference wins over Marist, 6-4, 12-1.
In the first game, Eddie Pietschmann was the winning pitcher. He also had a home run and drove in 3 runs.
In the second game, Joey Lake went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI while Austin Ehren and Drew Wiegman each had 2 hits.
Grayslake North 9, Lakes 5: Grayslake North rolled up 11 hits on the day.
Sebastian Sancen led Grayslake North with 3 hits, including a double.
Charlie Burr and Nick Lovitsch had 2 hits each, and Lovitsch had a double.
For Lakes, Tom Jones and Michael Behrendt each had 2 hits.
Grant 7, Hononegah 6: Grant improved to 8-6 with the nonconference win.
Winning pitcher Jay Patel got his first win on the mound with 5 strikeouts over 2⅓ innings.

Ricky Allen got 2 hits and Logan Lewis drove in 2 runs.
Zach Biegel had a double for the Bulldogs.
Grayslake Central, 9, Johnsburg 1: The visiting Rams scored 8 runs in the first three innings and won their 10th game of the year.
Nic Presutti and Benton Troehler each had a pair of hits with Presutti driving in 2 runs to lead Grayslake Cnetral's 10-hit attack. Kyle Allen added a double and scored a pair of runs as the Rams are now 10-2 on the season.
Justin Shepley tossed a 2-hitter over 5 innings allowing just 1 unearned run while striking out 3 and walking no one. Fellow senior Ryan Spicer tossed 2 scoreless innings.
The Rams scored 5 runs after 2 outs.
Lake Zurich 9, Zion-Benton 4: Tyler Snep crushed the ball, leading Lake Zurich with 3 hits, including 2 home runs. He drove in a total of 5 runs.
Dylan Niedzwiecki added 2 hits for the Bears and winning pitcher Shane Nolan rolled up 6 strikeouts and did not give up a hit over 3⅓ innings.
Vernon Hills 13, Hoffman Estates 3 (6 ): Sophomore Danny Wizceb made the most of his first varsity start as he threw a complete game allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, walking four and striking out one.
With one out and down 2-1, sophomore Jake Morris' (1-3, R) sinlge ignited a six-run rally. Tony Brown (2-4, HR, 2R, 3RBI), Matt Gramins (2-3, 2R, 2RBI) and Brennan Reback (3-3, 2B, 3R, RBI) all had two-out hits and RBI. Drew Winegardner (1-3, 2R, RBI) also had a hit and RBI in the winning cause.
Vernon Hills improved 6-8-1 overall.
