Baseball: Crystal Lake South stays perfect

The Crystal Lake South baseball team ran its record to 12-0 with a 10-0 Fox Valley Conference victory over Dundee-Crown in five innings.

Leadoff hitter Griffin Bright (4-for-4, RBI), Brian Fuentes (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI) and Nick Wolski (double, RBI) led an 11-hit attack for the Gators, who improved to 4-0 in the FVC. Andrew Engelking pitched 4 scoreless innings to earn the win. He held the Chargers to 2 hits and a walk and struck out 3.

Ryan Denz, Jonathan Mays and Matt Marczyk registered the only hits for Dundee-Crown (5-5, 2-3).

Cary-Grove 9, Crystal Lake Central 4: Justin Trausch singled with the bases loaded to give the Trojans the lead and Zach Willis followed with a 2-run single to key a 5-run eighth inning for Cary-Grove (10-3, 5-2). Mike Eleftheriou settled for a no-decision after he held the Tigers to 4 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Reliever Tommy Nielsen pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the save.

Jacobs 5, Hampshire 4: Adam Kale singled with runners on the corners and no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in courtesy runner Dan Murray and lift the Golden Eagles to a Fox Valley Conference win. Senior reliever Dylan Cummings allowed only 1 hit in 3 scoreless innings to earn the win for Jacobs (10-2, 3-1). Carter Lawler (5 IP, 4 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 8 K) started and reliever Christian Puente took the loss for Hampshire (6-7-1, 2-5).

Batavia 6, Larkin 5: Larkin scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied for 2 runs in their half of the seventh for a walk-off win in the Upstate Eight River. Michael Downs tied the game for Batavia (3-4, 3-2) with a run-scoring single and the winning run scored on a passed ball. Aaron Lazovick (double) and Andy Bonnot each had 2 hits for Larkin (7-5, 5-3).

Burlington Central 3, Woodstock 2: Matt Termini's walk-off sacrifice fly scored Caden Scott and capped a 2-run rally that lifted the Rockets to victory and a sweep of the 3-game Kishwaukee River Conference series. Brad Dinges tied the game in the seventh with his RBI double. Dinges earned the win with 1⅓ innings of scoreless relief for Burlington Central (10-2, 4-0).

Marmion 9, DePaul Prep 1: Brandon McPherson allowed 1 hit and struck out 7 in 3 scoreless innings, and Zack Lentz held DePaul hitless in 2 innings of this Chicago Catholic League win. Collin Gibson (RBI), Nick Talarico (RBI) and Chase Stanke (double) each had 2 hits for Marmion (6-3).

Kaneland 3, DeKalb 1: Robbie Dudzinski (3-for-4, RBI) scored on an eighth-inning wild pitch and Preston Havis followed with a run-scoring single to lift the Knights to a Northern Illinois Big 12 East road win. Angel Acevedo earned the win in relief of Dudzinski. Acevedo struck out 8 in 4 scoreless, hitless innings. He issued 2 walks.

Joliet Central 4, West Aurora 1: The Blackhawks outhit their guests 7-6 but couldn't overcome a 4-run third inning by the Steelmen. J.J. Rivera took the loss and Alex Diaz (double) had the only extra base hit for West Aurora (1-10).

Crossroads Academy 6, Elgin Academy 5: Ethan Hill went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and Jonathan Cruz finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, but Crossroads scored a run in the seventh to snap a 5-5 tie and held on to win in nonconference play.
