Scolari-led Guangzhou stumbles in Asian Champions League

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Big-spending Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande had to settle for its third draw in four Asian Champions League matches, playing out scoreless match against Japanese club Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday.

Guangzhou, coached by Luiz Felipe Scolari, has won only once in Group G and sits in second place behind Suwon Bluewings. Only the top two teams advance to the knockout stage.

Brazil international Paulinho went closest for Guangzhou, the 2013 and 2015 continental champion.

Suwon moved into first place in the group by beating Hong Kong club Eastern SC 5-0. The South Korean team leads the group with eight points, two more than Guangzhou with two games remaining.

Brisbane Roar recorded its first win in Group E, defeating Kashima Antlers 2-1. Jamie Maclaren scored in the first half for Brisbane, with Brett Holman extending the lead four minutes after the restart.

The Australian team remains last in the group with four points but is now only two points behind second-place Kashima and even with South Korean club Ulsan Horangi.

Thai club Muangthong United, which beat Ulsan 1-0, leads the group with eight points.

In the western half of the group stage, 2016 finalist Al Ain slipped to third in Group C after a 2-2 draw with Saudi club Al Ahli. UAE club Al Ahli took over first place in Group A with a 3-1 win at Saudi club Al Taawoun.
