Boys water polo: Carr, Buffalo Grove extend East lead

Kevin Carr's 7-goal effort paved the way as host Buffalo Grove (15-3, 7-0) turned away its nearest challenger in the Mid-Suburban East race boys water polo race with a 17-6 victory over Hersey on Wednesday.

John Casey paced the Huskies (12-5, 5-2) with 3 scores and James Laurence had 2.

Barrington (13-1, 7-0) remained out in front in the MSL West standings by handling Fremd 16-3.

Conant 11, Schaumburg 5: Cory Pedro and Alex Hirjoi both finished with 4 goals to help power the Cougars (11-2, 6-1) in MSL West play.

Matt Soltau had 2 goals for the Saxons (7-10, 2-5).

St. Viator 16, Deerfield 8: Sophomore Tyler Couple scored 6 goals while juniors Jack Curran (3) and Michael Wendling (2) also produced as the Lions earned a nonconference win. Senior goalie Tim Bansfield stopped 10 shots and sophomor Shane Cloonan made 5 saves for St. Viator (8-13).

Palatine 20, Hoffman Estates 7: Seniors T.J. May (9 goals) and Dylan White (7) led the way as the Pirates (3-11, 2-5) picked up an MSL West win at home.

Greg Baranov (3 goals) led the scoring effort for the Hawks (0-15, 0-7).

Elk Grove 11, Wheeling 8: The Grenadiers improved to 8-11 overall and 4-3 in the East.
