Budweiser Clydesdales visit Rosemont for Cubs rally

The day after the Cubs' World Series championship banner was raised at Wrigley Field, the famous ambassadors of the team's beer sponsor paid a visit to Rosemont's entertainment district for a home opener rally.

The Budweiser Clydesdales' visit to MB Financial Park late Tuesday afternoon - after rain canceled their appearance Monday - was one of hundreds the "Gentle Giants" make annually. The eight-horse hitch, harnessed to the famous red beer wagon, paraded around the plaza and visited with spectators.

Each horse is at least 3 years old, stands at least 6 feet at the shoulder and weighs an average 2,000 pounds.

The first Clydesdales were brought to America in the mid-1800s by Canadians of Scottish descent. For many years, they helped transport beer from tavern to tavern, but today the giant horses are used primarily for breeding and show.
