Man shot in Waukegan robbery

Waukegan police are searching for a man who shot and wounded another man during an attempted robbery outside a city residence Saturday night.

Police said officers were called about 9:45 p.m. Saturday to the backyard of a home in the 900 block of Wadsworth Avenue for a man suffering from a superficial gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim told police he was visiting family at the home when he went outside for a cigarette. While outside, a man wearing a black hoodie came up to the victim and demanded money. When the victim said he did not have any money, the robber pulled out a gun and fired, then ran away, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was treated and later released, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department's Tip-Line at (847) 360-9001.
