Boys water polo: Barrington, BG protect divisional leads
Mid-Suburban League boys water polo divisional leaders Barrington and Buffalo Grove remain perfect after six conference games.
Barrington came up with an 18-9 victory over Schaumburg on Monday, as Mitch Gavars (5 goals), John Fischer (3) and Steven Fischer (2) led the scoring effort for the Broncos (12-1, 6-0).
Matt Soltau had a team-best 5 goals for Schaumburg (7-9, 2-4), and Sam Thomas had 3.
Buffalo Grove improved to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the MSL East by topping visiting Wheeling 16-5.
Kacper Aniecko (4 goals) and Dan Korol (3) were the scoring leaders for the Bison, who hold a 1-game lead over Hersey in the East standings.
Conant 17, Palatine 6: The visiting Pirates were within 1 goal in the third quarter before the Cougars rattled off 9 straight goals on their way to an MSL West victory.
Alec Burke finished with a game-high 8 goals for Conant (10-2, 5-1), which is 1 game behind Barrington in the West Division race.
Sam Spaletto scored twice to lead Palatine (2-11, 1-5).
Hersey 10, Prospect 9: The Huskies held Prospect scoreless in the first quarter before managing to hang on for an MSL East victory.
Bian Prior paced Hersey (12-4, 5-1) with 3 goals, while Jacob Kosinski led the way for Prospect (6-7, 3-3) with 4 goals.
Loyola 4, St. Viator 2: Senior Tim Bansfield stopped 9 shots and Matt Stack and Michael Wendling scored for the Lions (7-14) in an MCAC setback.
