Elgin airman graduates from basic military training

U.S. Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Jeffrey C. Merza graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Merza is the son of Marlyn and Francisco Merza of Bartlett, Ill., and son-in-law Wilbur and Juliet Ligutam, of Chicago, Ill. He is also the brother of Jemmer Merza, husband of Indira Ligutam, and father of Cozette.

The airman graduated in 1996 from Amundsen High School, Chicago, Ill., and earned an associate degree in 2002 from Wright College, Chicago, Ill.
