Girls soccer: St. Charles North topples Downers Grove North

St. Charles North 3, Downers Grove North 1: At the PepsiCo Showdown, Madison Kaufmann tallied 2 goals for the North Stars (4-0-1) in an opening round win. Gia Wahlberg also added a goal while Claudia Najera, Claire Barresi and Hailey Rydberg garnered assists. Keeper Sami Sample made 5 saves.

West Aurora 4, CL Central 2: The Blackhawks (10-1) made it a perfect 10 - 10-straight wins overall after scoring the final 3 goals in a comeback PepsiCo win over the Tigers. Jocelyn Ferrer scored twice while Katharine Stephens had 1 goal and 1 assist. Jessica Ortiz also scored while Riley O'Brien had a hat trick of assists.

Elgin beats Lincoln-Way West in PKs: The Maroons (3-2-2) opened up PepsiCo play with a thrilling 3-2 shootout win to settle a scoreless affair. Emily Graves, Kylie Graves and Brittany Dazzo managed to sneak in boots while goalie Hannah Erickson provided 12 saves, including 2 stops in penalties.

ACC 3, Hinckley-Big Rock 0: Keeper Alex Montalbano posted her second shutout of the year with 5 saves in a nonconference win for the Chargers (2-1). Mary Canning led the attack with 1 goal and 1 assist. Shannon LoPresti and Gina Cortino also scored goals while Amy Flores and Anna Dudziak provided assists.

Jacobs 3, Riverside-Brookfield 0: Karissa Gottardo scored 2 goals and Cassie Kowalski added 1 to grab he Golden Eagles (5-3) a win PepsiCo.

CL South 2, Carmel 1: Thanks to Brooke Dunteman's late goal, South (4-0-1) remained undefeated in a win over the Corsairs at PepsiCo. Courtney Sengstock also scored while keeper Annika Sevick, who had 6 saves in net, also recorded an assist.

Burlington Central 1, Sycamore 1: Megan Majewski was able to salvage a tie for the Rockets in nonconference action thanks to her goal with 55 seconds left on ball guided by Elizabeth Gousios. Erin Rafferty (3 saves) and Abbi Ciganek (2 saves) split time in net for the Central (6-1-1).

Westminster Christian 6, Elgin Academy 0: The Warriors received 4 goals from Lexi Kuhlman in a dominant win for the Warriors in nonconference action. Amanda Spurlock and Emily Lamp also scored goals. Kylie Siers, Choloe Kim and Anna DeHaan added assists and goalie Grace Bickford got 1 save to muster a shutout.

Bartlett drops 2 in St. Lou: The Hawks (4-4-1) lost both games at the Nenrinx Hall St. Louis Classic down in Missouri despite having ties at the half in both contests. In a 2-1 loss to Incarnate Word Academy, Jenna Dombrowski scored on a goal assisted by Jessica Mirsky. Teagan Noesen (3 saves) and Nykia Wetterman (7 saves) split time in goal. During Bartlett's 3-1 loss to St. Joseph Academy, Alyssa Modugno found the net while Noesen (3 saves) and Wetterman (5 saves) split time in net, again.

Plainfield South 2, Dundee-Crown 1: The Chargers (4-4) saw their 4-game win streak snap in its first round game at the PepsiCo. Kendall Kieltyka tried to spark a rally with her girl in the 60th minute. Katelyn Skibinski assisted on the goal while Diana Santillan-Ceja made 8 saves in net.
