Keep the tax cut; protect my neighbors

Representative Peter Roskam, I am one of your constituents.

From your website and your public speeches, I understand that you are one of the leading proponents of the American Health Care Act. The Congressional Budget Office has now confirmed that the ACHA will accomplish your primary goal - lowering taxes on people like me.

My wife and I work hard and are fortunate to make a good living for us and our family. Like other Americans, we don't want to spend a dollar more in taxes than necessary. Based on the current ACHA models, we would see a substantial reduction in our tax burden if the ACHA passed.

But, according to the CBO, the cost of this tax break is that 24 million of my fellow citizens would be thrown off the health insurance rolls. These are people who are among our sickest and neediest friends and neighbors, and we, as a country, would be turning our back on them. As a result of the tax cut you want to give our wealthiest citizens, millions of people will be denied healthy and productive lives.

Tens of thousands will needlessly die each year, all for the sake of a tax cut.

That's just too high of a price for me. I am not willing to condemn millions of my fellow citizens to lives of sickness, misery and poverty so that I can enjoy a couple more pieces of silver.

You can keep my tax cut. Protect my neighbors, instead.

The ACHA is not only wrong, it is immoral. I oppose it and so should you.
