Candidate offers New Deal for Illinois

Recently, a large group of locals gathered at the monthly Action for a Better Tomorrow meeting to hear gubernatorial candidate and Chicago Alderman Ameya Pawar speak about his vision for the future of Illinois - what he calls the New Deal for Illinois.

Mr. Pawar left a very positive impression. He is intelligent and he answers questions in a way that demonstrates his deep understanding of the issues at hand and the needs of the people of Illinois. He does not use diversionary techniques to avoid answering tricky questions, but answers them with a frankness and openness that is very refreshing to see in a politician.

He has a background in social work, and cares deeply about the need to work on building community and supporting all people in our state. He focuses on preventive measures in response to problematic situations, rather than reactionary responses - for example, he places high value on the need for quality education for all children and sees education and community support as a means to deal with the problems of crime and violence and poverty.

He understands that we need to get to the root of the financial problems of our state, namely that we are one of a minority of states that does not have a progressive income tax. He is also very open to collaborative discussion to work together to improve things and sees no benefit in taking hard line stances that prevent communication and thus growth.

If you have not heard Pawar speak, check out his campaign and learn more about this great candidate.
