Hultgren should hold town halls

As a constituent of Congressman Randy Hultgren, I just want to know what my member of Congress is doing with his taxpayer-funded time.

I want to know where he stands on many issues of national importance like healthcare, the environment, and education and how and why he repeatedly votes in line with his party when I feel it is not in the best interest of our country.

Yet Congressman Hultgren apparently feels I do not need to know about how he votes and his stance on current legislation. My Congressman tweets and posts on Facebook about local sporting events and meetings with farmers and small business owners as if he were a small-town mayor, instead of a member of the United States Congress.

Many legislators across the country, both Republican and Democrat, choose to hold Town Hall meetings to more effectively communicate with their constituents and answer their questions. Congressman Randy Hultgren has refused to hold a Town Hall meeting citing concerns for his personal safety, a dereliction of duty for a sitting U.S. Congressman, and an odd stance for a legislator who receives an A rating from the NRA due to his sponsorship and support of pro-gun legislation.

So I say to you, Congressman Randy Hultgren, respect us by communicating to your constituents about important issues and hold a Town Hall meeting in a venue large enough to safely accommodate all your constituents who want to attend. You were elected by a democratic process and it is your responsibility to behave like a democratically elected member of the United States House of Representatives.
