Please let Bonnie Dundee Golf Course be

On March 22, a meeting was held at the Rakow Center to solicit input from various representatives regarding the potential for changes in use of the Bonnie Dundee Golf Course Property. I attended the meeting.

According to a "Comprehensive Plan Review" done by the Dundee Township Park District in 2010 and updated in 2015, there is a service deficiency on the east side of the township relative to parkland. According to their findings there are four Dundee Township parks in the area.

The park district wants to make Bonnie Dundee G.C. a nine-hole course and use most of the remainder for the development of additional park space. This would be done at a cost of $2 million.

In my findings, I came across a larger number of parks on the east side. They were either associated with a school or the park district of that area. The number was closer to 12 and that seems like an adequate number of park facilities.

Instead of changing a facility that is already serving the area residents, let's make a property in the area more productive. Let's make Kemper park more accessible. Let's work with Community Unit District 300. They have property adjacent to Carpentersville Middle School that would provide an area for soccer fields. Also, there is property at Lakewood School that may be available for reconfiguration.

What about purchasing additional property? There are two parcels that would be ideal for parks. There are 31 acres available on Carpentersville Boulevard. It's currently a corn field and it is across from Carpentersville Park.

There is also an 84-acre parcel on Maple Blvd in Carpentersville, currently farmland, for sale.

If the residents are in need of park land as the Dundee Township Park District claims, I'm sure residents would be willing to pay a little more tax to the Dundee Township Park District to insure park land for them and their families.
