What local experts would do to improve the space

A large meeting room like this can be overwhelming to makeover, said Mike Warren, workplace culture consultant for Rieke Office Interiors of Elgin.

"A fresh coat of paint, new seating, creative and functional tables along with new lighting will make this space shine," Warren said. Tables that can reconfigure in several ways allows for people to gather in groups that support their meeting goals, he said. In addition, comfortable colorful chairs would add a freshness to the room.

The meeting or conference room is important to serve as a place to generate ideas. "Collaboration, inspiration and culture are just words until you provide your team spaces to interpret and execute those words," Warren added.

When it comes to technology, "the sheer amount of wall space in the room offers an array of design options to help bring the area to life," said a designer at Des Plaines Office Equipment Company in Elk Grove Village.

Suggestions include adding an 80-inch interactive touch-screen that will bring ideas to life and encourage audience participation.

In addition the designer says that installing a discrete, auto detecting air purifier will remove 99.9 percent of airborne contaminants, improve ventilation and increase attentiveness.
