Softball: Bartlett finishes second in Tennessee

For the first time in the 10 years Bartlett's softball team has been going to the Zaxbys Tournament in Clarksville, Tenn., the Hawks reached the championship game.

But in that game Bartlett ran into one of Tennessee's top-ranked teams and fell to Brentwood 6-0.

Earlier in the day Bartlett defeated Station Camp (TN) 4-2 and 6-0 as well as Clarksville Northeast 9-1.

Janelle Ulaszek led the Hawks, going 3-1 in the circle for the day as well as driving in 5 runs. Amber Pagan was also hot at the plate with 5 hits in 7 at-bats, a home run, 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Ulaszek added 5 RBI in the four games on Saturday.

"It was a very good trip," said Bartlett coach Jim Wolfsmith, whose team is now 7-3-1. "We tightened up our defense, Janelle and Amber both pitched very well and we started hitting the ball with some authority.

"It was the best spring trip we've had in the 10 years we've been coming here."

Rosary sweeps: Xandria Olsen had a big day at the plate as Rosary opened the GCAC season with an 8-4, 15-4 sweep of Queen of Peace. Olsen went 7-for-9 on the day with a home run, 2 doubles and 5 RBI. In Game 1, Olsen was 3-for-4 with a home run, double and 3 RBI while Krystal Cortes, who had an equally big day, added 2 hits with a home run and 3 RBI. Chloe Saltijeral added 2 hits and Riley McCue drove in a run for the Royals. Sarah Willman picked up the win in the circle allowing 7 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk. In Game 2, Olsen had 4 hits with a double and 2 RBI while Cortes added 3 hits with 2 homers and 5 RBI. Also contributing to the offense were Anna VanGundy (2 RBI), Aubrey Fisher (RBI), Kaleigh Lentz (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Maura VanBogaert (2 hits, 2 RBI). Freshman Abby Young was the winning pitcher for the Royals (4-2, 2-0).

Jacobs splits with Harlem: Jacobs won Game 1 of this nonconference doubleheader 6-3 then fell in the nightcap 8-2. In Game 1, Gabby Silva (2 RBI) and winning pitcher Savannah Svedman each had 2 hits and each had a home run and a double. Also adding to the offense for the Golden Eagles were Kerri Healy (2 hits), Jess Mrzlak (2 hits, 2B), Alexis Addante (RBI) and Emily Pena (3 hits, 2 RBI). Svedman allowed 5 hits in a complete-game effort in the circle. In Game 2, Healy had a home run, a double and an RBI while Silva added 2 hits and Drew Lehman had an RBI.

ACC splits with Plano: Aurora Central Catholic won the opener of this nonconference twinbill 5-2 and then lost 3-2 in Game 2. In Game 1, winning pitcher Danielle Brown had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the Chargers while Jessica Kling and Jessica Eallonardo each had 2 RBI. Brown allowed just 3 hits with 12 strikeouts and 1 walk. In the second game Kling had 2 hits and Isabell Gonzalez an RBI for ACC (2-3).

Aurora Christian sweeps South Beloit: In Northeastern Athletic Conference action, the Eagles won 11-10 and 10-6. In Game 1, winning pitcher Noelle Chaney had 3 hits and 3 RBI for AC while Tori Cammarano (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Janae Holloway (2 hits, RBI) and Tori Henning (2 hits, 2 RBI) also contributed. In the second game, winning pitcher Holloway had 3 hits with 2 doubles and 4 RBI to lead the way. Chaney added a double and an RBI and Analiese Hudson had 2 hits and an RBI.

Huntley falls twice: At the Barrington quad, Huntley lost to Barrington 11-1 and to Elk Grove 7-6. Against Barrington, losing pitcher Tiffany Giese and Breanne Weiss each had 2 hits for the Red Raiders and Autumn Kasal added a double. In the loss to Elk Grove, Rylie Poretto (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Sofia Tenuta (HR) and Taylor Pacana (2 hits) led the offense for Huntley (3-2). Kateri Conklin was the losing pitcher.
