Two dogs rescued in Mundelein fire

Two dogs were rescued from a burning house in Mundelein early Friday afternoon.

Mundelein fire Lt. Tim Starkey said that about 1 p.m., firefighters responded to the fire on the 900 block of Granville Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke showing from the eaves and discovered the fire had traveled from the basement to the attic, he said.

The fire was put out at 1:29 p.m.

No people were home at the time, but two dogs were inside and had to be rescued. Starkey said oxygen was administered to the dogs via a special mask.

The dogs were taken to a veterinary hospital in Mundelein. The outlook for the dogs is good, he said.

Mundelein firefighters were assisted by the Grayslake, Countryside, Libertyville, Gurnee, Deerfield, Nunda Rural and Arlington Heights departments.

The fire is under investigation.
