Seven Sayings from the Cross: A Good Friday program on Jesus' Last Words

If you are interested in commemorating Good Friday in a thoughtful way, join in the community worship at the First United Methodist Church in Des Plaines at 7pm on Good Friday, April 14.

For the second year, Rev. Dr. Irene Taylor, Pastor at FUMC, Des Plaines has organized interdenominational Pastors and leaders from area communities to share with you understanding of those famous sayings of Jesus spoken from the cross. This stirring and thought provoking program will reveal insights into famous, but sometimes difficult words from the New Testament.

Rev. Clarence Weaver, Associate Minister, Second Baptist Church, Evanston, IL

will tackle the Gospel of Luke 23:34, Jesus asking forgiveness for his persecutors. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" will be discerned by Rev. Ric Hudgens, Co-Pastor of North Suburban Mennonite Church, Libertyville, IL . Debra Hawkins, Transformation Community UMC, Harvey IL, will share with us the passionate, "It is finished," from the Gospel of John.

Others speaking on Jesus' last words are, First United Methodist, Des Plaines' Minister Tina Shelton; Lino Aragon, lay leader, Nuevo Amanecer, Des Plaines; Violet Ricker, Seminarian, McCormick Theological Seminary, interning, Transformation Community UMC and Rev. Dr. Karen E. Mosby, PhD student, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Christian Education & Congregational Studies.

Music reflecting the solemnity of the service will be played by pianist/ organist Karen Bruchman.

The First United Methodist Church in Des Plaines is located at the corner of Prairie and Graceland Avenues. There is parking across the street on Graceland and in a parking lot behind the church.
