After four terms, time for a change

I moved to Geneva 23 years ago to raise a family. When we chose Geneva it was viewed as a quiet little community with a wonderful downtown and great schools. Today, after 23 years and four different mayors, Geneva is viewed as a quiet little community with a wonderful downtown and great schools.

My point is that the brand "Geneva" is the community not an individual overlooking it. Somewhere in American history the office of a politician went from public servitude to a career. A politician used to give up time from his occupation for the betterment of the community. Now it is an occupation.

Career politicians inevitably breed cronyism and a lack of fresh perspective. They begin to govern based on being reelected versus principle. I along with 75 percent of Illinoisans support term limits. While Michael Madigan can prevent this from being law, I as a voter can enforce term limits.

Mayor Burns has done a fine job carrying the torch but after four terms I think it's time for a change. I will be casting my vote for Tom Simonian.
