Give Kane County taxpayers a breather

In 1999, the Kane County Forest Preserve Board, the same people who are members of the Kane County Board, voted to start a land acquisition program.

Since then, taxpayers have approved $260 million, four referendums, for land acquisition. We taxpayers are now being asked to approve the fifth referendum, seeking another $50 million, of which $10 million is for maintenance - maintenance that should be in an operating budget.

While I have supported the land acquisitions in the past, I do not support this one. It is time to give taxpayers a breather - full relief from previous bonds being retired. Let the taxpayers have the full benefit of the tax reduction. We have more urgent needs in Kane County.
