Chicago History Museum to mark 100 years of iconic city flag

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago History Museum is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the city's iconic flag.

The City Council accepted the design - made up of blue and white stripes and red stars - in April 1917.

Since then it's become a symbol of Chicago. Museum officials say the design also has "inspired more tattoos than we can count."

A celebration is scheduled at the museum on April 4. Admission is free for Illinois residents.

Visitors will see rare artifacts, including a 1947 flag that was carried on the first round-the-world commercial passenger flight of the Pan American Clipper.

They'll also see how the flag changed over the years. The original design had two stars. The third was added in 1933 and the fourth in 1939.
